Between 2019 and 2024, Indian cities achieved an average 27% reduction in PM2.5 levels. Notably, Varanasi led with a 76% reduction, followed by Moradabad at 58%. Despite these improvements, cities like Delhi and Byrnihat in Assam recorded PM2.5 levels of 107 µg/m³ and 127.3 µg/m³ respectively in 2024, remaining among the most polluted areas. Recognizing the need for further action, the NCAP revised its targets in 2022 to achieve up to a 40% reduction in PM10 levels by 2026.
